So far so good! May 29, 2008
By Patrick A. Kellner

I am burning with DVD Cloner 5 and these discs have worked out well so far. I was burning with Memorex 32025732 DVD+R 8x Double Layer 50 Pack Spindle because they were the cheapest however the last batch I bought failed about 60% of the time. I was going to switch to Verbatim 8.5 GB 8x DVD+R Double Layer Bundle (5 Discs) but they were substantially more expensive. Then I found these. The Phillips discs are working well so far and even though they aren't quite as cheap as the Memorex they are actually working and are cheaper than the Verbatim disc. If they start to fail I will update this review. So far so good!

Try your media within the return period... Mar 30, 2010
By R. Martindale I had nearly the exact same results as I.J. Gilbert. He wrote: 4 were bad right from the platter, and wouldn't write 5 burned and finalized, but came up as blank when inserted for playback* 3 worked
Remarkably similar, but leave off the "3 worked" line for me.
I used an entire 25pk of Verbatim DL+R discs with no problems. So my burner (TSSTCorp TS-H552B) works fine with +R discs. I even had 2 left, and after so many fails with these...used them to confirm the burner was ok. No problem. Thing is, I bought these when I still had half a stack of the Verbatims. So by the time I tried them, too late to return.
Moral: Even if you have older stuff that you're still using, try all media soon after purchase. I know I will from now on.
Ordered some more Verbatims (for more dollars, of course), and will never purchase another Philips product. Here's hoping Verbatim hasn't gone down the same path by now. Some of their reviews are scaring me. I'll append to this review when they come. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Excellent Results So Far!!! Aug 07, 2009

(Update, added 09/07/2009) To-date, DVD-DL burning at rates of 1x to 4x has yielded one (1) failure out of 35 (less than 3%) using the Samsung SH-S203N SATA device. Will, definitely, buy more of this product again. Good luck!
Hello All,
We purchased a 50-pk spindle for $39.99 plus shipping (comes out to 90 cents a piece). We use a recently installed Samsung SATA SH-S203N DVD+-RW/RAM (updated to SB02 firmware). Our installed RecordNow! from Sonic (v6.5.1) does not recognize the DVD drive's double layer capability. We downloaded and installed DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 (freeware) and use it to successfully decrypt DVDs for backup purposes, even with RCE protection, generating files onto the PC's local hard drive. We downloaded and installed ImgBurn v2.4.2 (freeware, v2.5.0 also available) and use it to successfully create .ISO image files, also onto the PC's local hard drive, of the decrypted DVD files. We, again, use ImgBurn to successfully burn the .ISO image files to the blank Philips DL DVDs loaded into the Samsung SH-S203N DVD drive. Excellent results with write speeds of 1X, 2X and 4X. Tip: When generating the .ISO files from the source decrypted DVD files, target the .ISO files to a different physical hard drive, if available -- the process goes much faster as different hard drives and, thus, different write heads are used (if targeted to the same physical hard drive as the source decrypted DVD files, the drive's heads have to perform both read (source) and write (target) functions. Good luck!

My problem wasn't the discs - it was VISTA!!! Apr 06, 2010
By S. Wilcox I've used several brands in the past and these have performed as well as the more expensive brands. I've used about 70 of these so far on my XP system and my Vista system and the only coasters I've had was due to Windows Vista and the cheap ass TEAC drive that came with my HP computer. These gave me about 5% coasters compared with TDK which gave me about 30% coasters on my Vista system. Since upgrading to Windows 7 I haven't had any coasters from any brand of blank CD or DVD I've used. Maybe the problem people are having is a compatibility issue with their system; I'm curious to know how many of the people experiencing excessive disc failure are using Vista.
