Get version 2 of this item Apr 18, 2009
By Grandizer This version of the adapter is hit and miss. Theoretically it works but isn't compatible at times with controllers and certain driving wheels. DragonPlus came out with a version 2 of this same adapter and works beautifully. Since Sony has released firmware 2.7 that has disabled some of the ps2-ps3 controller adapters, Version 2 works great. I immediately tried some PS2 games in the PS3, and the DS2 worked as well as rumble. I also tested Battlefiled Bad Company and other PS3 games with rumble and the DS2 worked with rumble on PS3 games. I also have 3 steering wheels and those all worked with force feedback as well.
There is no PS button on this item, but the "analog" button on DS2's works the same as the PS button ( press once or hold function). There is also a trick to get to the XMB or to register some controllers by using Up and Select as the PS button.
For those wondering about input lag, Version 2 had no lag I could detect. Aiming in FPS was right on.

works but doesn't completley replace a ps3 controller Apr 21, 2010
By Mathew Reeves like the title says, using a ps1 or ps2 controller for a ps3 does work, but doesn't completley sync. in that i mean there is no ps button like there is on the ps3 so when i want to quit a game, i have to shutdown the console or eject the disc. also the r2 and l2 buttons on the ps1/2 controller aren't pressure sensitive making games like grand theft auto harder to play. all in all, its a deal to replace a broken ps3 controller with 4 bucks and a ps2 controller you already have, but for me its definatley a temporary fix, meaning im going to have to throw down the 54.99 at some point but this will get me though till then.

Great adapter Feb 18, 2010

Works great and with no delays. Try it with MGS 4, PES 2010 and GTA 4; no complains except for the absence of the sensitive L2 R2 buttons (not adapters fault though)

Great adapter Aug 18, 2011
By Gnmorpheus Product worked as described. Only issue is old PS2 controller has no PS button so you need to use it more as a second player controller so you can navigate in and out of game. But overall it work great even on 3rd Party PS2 controllers.

Works - Kinda. Mar 10, 2011
By Charles Childs I'm using this primarily for playing PS3 with DualShock2 (PS2) controllers. I haven't tried it yet on the computer, but it is advertised as doing that as well. I plan on hooking up dance pads one day using this adapter, so I will update this review with what I find. All that being said, this adapter IS recognized by PS3 in the XMB. You can easily navigate through the menus, surf the web, watch videos, or whatever you do on your PS3 - besides games. I've tried PSone, PS2, PS3, and Mini games using this adapter, and none of the above have worked for me. This gets 3 stars for the XMB navigation, as I do use the web browser and movie player quite frequently. And yes, obviously there is no SixAxis or Home (PS) Button. For these you will have to hook up a separate PS3 controller. Seems like they could easily put a Home button on the adapter itself; even if I had to get up to push it, at least I'd have the option. Would make quitting games a whole lot easier.
