A Perfect Travel Companion for Your DSi Jun 03, 2009
By Cristopher Willis I bought this product in anticipation of a three-week stint in Italy during which I would not have access to an American AC plug. I am bringing my MacBook Pro and already have the Apple M8794G/B World Travel Adapter Kit to keep my notebook charged overseas. However, having very recently purchased a DSi (read: this product arrived before the DSi did) I wanted an inexpensive way to charge my DSi while I was away from home. Enter the USB Power Charge Cable Adapter, which seemed like a natural solution, and something that would suffice - but the product is so good that I felt the need to write a review. There are a couple things that make it excellent: a) The price. It's right. Paying less than $6 shipped (in my case it arrived in 2 days with regular shipping from HDE) is spot on for a useful cable like this. b) The make. This cable has a finish which feels remarkably similar to that of the DSi, and the coloring is a match for the matte black DSi. I am also happy to say that the product quickly and easily charges the DSi without any hassle.

Provides flexible charging options for Nintendo DSi, XL and 3DS May 14, 2011
By NLee the Engineer Just to make it perfectly clear: This product (USB Power Charge Cable Adapter for Nintendo NDSi) cannot be used to transfer data to or from your computer. It is for charging your DSi from an USB port only. It also works with the newer Nintendo XL and 3DS, but not for the original DS and DS Lite (because older models have a differently shaped charging port).
The power cable is about 46 inches (117 cm) long. I measured the current consumption to be around 350mA during charging of my XL. All computer or laptop USB 2.0 ports are rated for 500mA, so there should be no problems with loading. But you should not plug it into an unpowered USB hub (because the 500mA is shared by multiple devices), nor should you try it in an older USB 1.1 port.
There are several other ways to recharge your Nintendo through this power cable, namely:
1. Using a generic AC-powered USB adapter. It is best to pick one that works from universal voltage of 100-240V AC, so that you can use it while traveling (Note that the original Nintendo AC adapter only works from 110V AC)
2. Using a battery-powered USB supply (such as the one from UltraLast Green 2AA/AAA/USB On-the-Go Charger). This allows you to recharge while taking a very long plane ride, for example.
3. Using a 12V-to-5V USB adapter. This allows you to recharge from your car battery, which is handy during long driving trips. Some newer cars already have USB ports for iPod and MP3 players, so in that case you don't even need an adapter.
In summary: This power cable is a very inexpensive accessory, but it gives me multiple options to recharge my Nintendo DSi XL. So for that I'm completely satisfied.

Great charger! Jun 05, 2010
By Krashlocke I'm surprised that this isn't sold by Nintendo! I purchased this because I travel frequently and have to deal with varying voltages depending on where I go. My laptop can handle that issue just fine, but my DSi XL can't. The shipping was fast, the quality is excellent, and the price is great.
Do not buy this expecting that it works for data transfers. Definitely buy this if you strictly want to recharge your DSi on a laptop without worrying about voltage converters, available outlets, &c.

Product was different from pictured (for the better) Aug 28, 2011
By C Williamson The version I received was different from what was pictured -- it was a USB charging cable, but with breakouts for 3DS/DSi, DS Lite, DS Fat, AND PSP-2000. I was happy to get the extra functionality, but if you're looking for something small and for one purpose, you might want to try another model cable.

Great for travel, works with the 3DS. Jun 21, 2011
By UJam The cable works as expected and has average build quality. It is a good substitute for travelers not wanting to pack extra adapters. The price can't be beat and it works with both the DSi and 3DS.
