5excellent product, but prices do fluctuate . . .  Jan 27, 2010
By trebe
These generic replacement ink cartridges work perfectly in my Brother MFC-490CW printer. I have ordered them several times, and have never had any problems. The MFC-490CW is a general purpose printer, and the results using these cartridges is comparable to the original Brother LC61 cartridges. Colors look decent, and ink consumption seems to be similar to the original. Being generic, there may or may not, be a brand name on the box. The generic cartridge looks slightly different from the Brother, but have no worries, they fit and are recognized by the printer's ink level monitor.

These non-OEM cartridges are packaged and sold in various quantities, so it can take a bit of research to find the best deal, for the kind of printing you do (color vs. black ink). The prices for these items fluctuate, but with shipping costs included, a unit cost in the one to two dollar range is common. That is still a fraction of the cost of the Brother LC61 cartridge. And the prices for generics at Amazon, are often better than what can be found on eBay.

Unlike Canon, Brother does not take extreme measures to try and force consumers to buy their products. These generics are inexpensive, easy to use, and produce good results. Until something better comes along, there is no reason for me to consider using anything else.

5Wonderful Ink  Jan 29, 2010
By A. Walker
I have the brother MFC-490CW printer. This is an amazing deal compared to the price of the OEM cartridges. The quality of the cartridges and the ink are very good. The appearance of the cartridges is very similar to OEM (which is a very good thing!!!) I ordered from the seller 77ink. They offered my very speedy shipping. When I got my package in the mail. One of the cartridges was busted and leaking (still in the original packaging). I contacted 77 ink and they shipped me out a new cartridge. I highly recommend this seller.

One thing to note when buying generic ink cartridges is to be careful. I ordered a 4 cartridge kit (1 of each color) a few months ago (from a different seller). The ink quality was good, but the black cartridge was the same size as the color cartridges. [After normal use] The cartridge was empty (although the printer said that it still had a little ink in it). I ended up taking out the empty cartridge (although printer said there was ink - even though cartridge was empty) and installing a fresh cartridge (sent by 77ink) just as a precaution because the ink delivery system in these printers are very touchy; you can't let them dry out b/c it could damage the print head.

All in all, this is a very good deal, (and I hate to sound like a promoter or I work for 77ink) but I really recommend that you buy your kit from them because the appearance of the cartridges is very close to OEM, the ink quality is just as good as OEM, and they provided me with excellent customer service :)

3Great...until you open the magenta cartridge.  Jul 02, 2010
By K. Krueger
I purchased this product 4 months ago...and everything seemed great until tonight when I really, really need to replace my magenta cartridge to print off a time-critical document. Unfortunately, the magenta cartridge included is completely different than the other colors. It will not fit into my 490CW. In fact, the individual packages on them indicates that these magentas will not work in any of the printers in the product description. These magentas are not LC61 cartridges.

I suspect this was a packing error at the time of shipping. The boxes for the cartridges are basically identical, except the supported printer list is different. It happens, I understand that. Assuming this was simply an error...it's a good product. However, make sure you take a look at EACH of the cartridges to make sure you received the correct ones.
